Model Ordinances for Water Quality Protection
Linked below are several documents containing model ordinances that can assist your community in protecting your lakes, streams and rivers. These ordinances represent one method in which local governments can take a proactive approach to environmental protection.

The first document linked below contains several model ordinances, including: Stormwater Management/Impervious Surface Mitigation Standards, Private Road Ordinance, Floodplain Management Standards, Post Construction Runoff Ordinance (Site-plan review), and a Lake/Funnel Access Ordinance. These and the riparian overlay zone were developed by Shawn McKenney, Project Manager for the Rabbit/Gun River Watershed Projects at the Allegan Conservation District. The wetland and watercourse protection ordinance was originally developed by the Clinton River Watershed Council.

More model ordinances are inlcuded at the Environmental Protection Agency's website here. In addition, the Van Buren Community Center website lists more model ordinances here.
