City opens some roads to snowmobiles

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – City staff and elected officials in South Haven have designated temporary snowmobile access routes for the City of South Haven.

Snowmobiles were not previously allowed in the city, but may now enter from the Kal-Haven Trail and operate from the trail head on North Bailey Street along Wells and Dunkley Streets to the Depot RV Park parking lot north of the Depot Store.
There is also an access route to the gas station at the corner of 73rd and Phoenix Street and to hotels on Veterans Boulevard and Dewey Court.

Here is the full list of snowmobile access routes in the city:
2nd Ave. between 71 ½ St. and 73rd St.
Veterans Boulevard between 2nd Ave. and Phoenix St.
73rd St. between 2nd Ave and Phoenix St.
Dewey Court east from Veterans Boulevard.
N. Bailey St. from the Kal-Haven trail head to Wells St.
Wells St. to Dunkley St.
Dunkley St. to the Depot parking lot


Snowmobiles may operate on these streets between 7:00 am and 11:59 pm. All city ordinances including speed and noise are in effect.

The new snowmobile routes are in place for this winter season only. The city will decide later whether to make a permanent change.
