KAL-HAVEN TRAIL RESURFACING PROJECT TO BEGIN The Van Buren County Road Commission, the Michigan Department of Transportation,and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment will begin work along the Kal-Haven State Trail from the 10 Street Trailhead in Kalamazoo County westerly to the west village limits of Bloomingdale in Van Buren County. Funds for this $1.2 million project were obtained by the Van Buren County Road Commission, for the most part, through the Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Road Commission officials state that the contractor, Hoffman Brothers, Inc., of Battle Creek, will complete work to include limestone resurfacing, hot mix asphalt paving, grading,and pavement marking work. Hoffman Brothers is scheduled to begin with tree trimming work at the end of April. The current progress schedule proposes work to be completed by August 31, 2010. The Contractor will attempt to complete the trail resurfacing in one (1) mile sections,and set up detours around the work zones so as to keep the trail open during the construction project.
