KAL-HAVEN TRAIL RESURFACING PROJECT IS ALMOST COMPLETED

The Van Buren County Road Commission, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment are working along the Kal-Haven State Trail from the 10 Street Trailhead in Kalamazoo County westerly to the west village limits of Bloomingdale in Van Buren County.
Funds for this $1.2 million project were obtained by the Van Buren County Road Commission, for the most part, through the Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Road Commission officials state that the contractor, Hoffman Brothers, Inc., of Battle Creek, will complete work to include limestone resurfacing, hot mix asphalt paving, grading, and pavement marking work. In the progress schedule the proposes work was to be completed by August 31, 2010. Due to contractor delays that date has been pushed back. At this time we have no firm date for the completion of the project. We estimate that work will continue for two to three weeks.

Riders are encouraged to check in with trail staff at the various Trail Heads for up to date project information. UPDATE 10-18-2010

The trail resurfacing project is continuing on the Kal-Haven Trail.

• The contractor has completed the placement of the new surface material.

• The instillation of the ADA Ramps on the trail at the road intersections is completed.

• All the bridge work is completed with all bridges widened out to 14 feet.

Once again we are terribly sorry for this inconvenience but we are sure you will enjoy the new trail.

Trail Detours

There are no detours on the trail at this time.

We hope to have the appropriate information and directions available for trail users at the trailheads from our trail staff. We will also try to keep this web page as up to date as possible with construction information. We appreciate and thank you for your support and understanding as we enhance the trail we all love.
