A working in the right-of-way Permit is required for any operation that is being performed on a county road or within the right-of-way. The average right-of-way is 33 feet from the center of the traveled portion of the roadway. It must be stressed that this is just an average distance. In some instances the right-of-way can be 200 feet or more. Please check with our office for further information pertaining to this issue. There are two types of right-of-way permits: · Annual Permit – This permit is valid from the date it is issued to the expiration date of your insurance or 1 year, whichever comes first. This Permit is usually issued to contractors or utilities companies that will be working in a number of locations in the County. · Single Site Permit - This Permit is usually issued to contractors or utilities companies that will be working in a single location . Permit applications may be faxed, mailed, downloaded, or picked up in our Lawrence office. Please take notice of the insurance requirements on the form. If you have any questions, please contact the Road Commission office.
