The Black River Watershed Project is a project of the Van Buren Conservation District.
As of May 2009, this project is drawing to a close. For future watershed protection efforts, please visit the Two Rivers Coalition website at www.vanburencd.org/trc
The Van Buren Conservation District was awarded a grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the Black River Watershed Project. This was a three-year project in which we worked to implement portions of the Black River Watershed Management Plan. The project will ran from April 2006 to May 2009.
The Black River Watershed encompasses approximately 287 square miles in Allegan and Van Buren Counties in southwestern Michigan. The river flows into Lake Michigan at South Haven. The mission of the Black River Watershed Project is to promote watershed management practices that will restore and maintain the Black River as a healthy sustainable aquatic environment supporting the economic, educational, and recreational needs of the community.
