About the Van Buren County Community Center
The Van Buren Community Center was created as part of a grant project called the Information Technology for Intergovernmental Cooperation (ITIC). Van Buren County successfully competed in an application process, meeting certain criteria including the participation by a majority of local units of governments and having a "rural" base. Van Buren County was the fourth county selected to participate in this project which is funded by the C.S. Mott and the W.K. Kellogg Foundations, the Michigan Council of Local Governments, the Land Information Access Association (LIAA) and participating Units of Government & Organizations in Van Buren County.

The Van Buren County Community Center is a comprehensive system for providing public access to an extensive array of information about Van Buren County. This information will include a geographically referenced asset inventory and useful analytical tools. The Community Center is designed to provide direct access to a broad set of digital maps and geographic analyses of the area, information about the agricultural aspects, community services, cultural resources, history, natural resources and recreation, education, business and industry of the area. It also will include an extensive range of information about local government and its services. The Community Center will include photographs and other multimedia options, as well as relevant links, all organized to help inform both public and private community planning and development decisions.

The Van Buren County Community Center is intended for use by all local units of government, schools and libraries, as well as individual citizens in Van Buren County. The unique LIAA designed Community Center™ software allows authorized users to easily include, update and maintain information in the Community Center using a computer in the convenience of their office or home. The Van Buren County Community Center is being developed with oversight from a broad Intergovernmental Coordination Committee (CICC). Members of the overall community are getting to know each other as the information collection effort gets underway. This effort is occurring through the work of eight Field Teams, organized according to the information listed under "Community Information."

View Project News about this Community Center or go to www.liaa.org to learn more about the Community Center software.

The information in the virtual Community Center is viewable by everyone. Created by LIAA, this unique Community Center(tm) software also allows users to add, edit or delete information - this means the Community Center can be easily and frequently up dated by any authorized & registered user with a computer!
